Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is a scientific, evidence-based and highly individualised approach to understanding and managing behaviour. At Blossoming Futures Consultancy, we use ABA to help children and young people with autism and other developmental needs to learn new skills, increase independence and lead more confident and fulfilling lives.
ABA is based on the principle that behaviour is learned and can be changed in meaningful ways. It involves looking closely at how a person behaves in different situations, what happens before the behaviour, what the behaviour looks like and what happens after. By understanding these patterns, we can teach new, more helpful behaviours while reducing those that may be challenging or unsafe.
ABA is:
✅ Evidence-based - Backed by decades of scientific research and studies. We are driven by data-based decisions.
✅ Individualised - Every programme is tailored to the specific needs, interests and goals of the individual.
✅ Positive and practical - We use positive reinforcement to encourage behaviours - when a child does something well, they are rewarded in a way that is meaningful to them, which makes it more likely they’ll do it again.
✅Skills-focused - We teach a wide range of skills including communication, play, social interaction, emotional regulation, self-help (like brushing teeth or getting dressed), and academic readiness.
✅Data-driven - We continually collect and analyse data to track progress and make sure interventions are working.
Families who choose ABA often see:
🌟Improved communication (verbal and non-verbal)
🌟Increased independence in daily routines
🌟Reduced frustration and challenging behaviours
🌟Better social interaction and emotional understanding
🌟Greater confidence and self-esteem
